We're under contract!

On a house that is ...

I am so excited! This is a super big step, but we're ready for it. I just hope it works out. We have the inspection this week and then the appraisal, so we shall see!

"... what a piece of work is man."

Last night my hubby and I saw In Bruges. It was wonderful. A modern day Shakespearean tragedy if you will. Do not see this movie if:
  • You have a problem with the word fuck ... or cunt ... or cock. They say those words a lot in this movie.
  • You don't have the stomach for violence, like the real life, you get shot in the neck and your vein explodes type of violence, as opposed to the "Die Hard" you get shot with a machine gun 10 times and you can still crawl through duct work variety.
  • You don't get sarcasm.
Do see this movie if:
  • You can appreciate a good shakespearean-esque tragedy. This definitely qualifies.
  • You can handle seeing what death can really look like and the site of fake blood doesn't bother you.
  • You like complex, well-developed characters and can appreciate that we are all flawed.
So, there ya have it. In Bruges is not the movie for everyone, but many folks will really appreciate this film.

I would also highly recommend Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. Amy Adams, Francis McDormand, Lee Pace. 'Nuf said.

...absence makes the heart grow fonder???

Either that or it drives all the readers away. I really didn't have that many to begin with so perhaps not posting a new entry form MONTHS is not such a great idea. But life has had me busy. Here's a rundown of what has been keeping me away from the internets...

  1. January 6th my brother-in-law was killed in a tragic crash. Geoff was an amazing person and this world would have been better off with him in it. This huge loss turned our world upside down for a while and we're just starting to adjust to this new normal.
  2. While we were in Birmingham 1 week after Geoff's death, I fell and broke my ankle. Technically it is my heel bone (the calcaneus) but where I broke it is a lot closer to my ankle than it is my heel. I was on crutches for 2 1/2 weeks and in a walking cast for another 4 1/2 weeks after that. I have have bone fragments just kinda hanging out there that will never heel, but rather will "scar into place". I have also started Physical Therapy and am finally gaining back some of my mobility.
  3. I was the chairperson for my daughter's school's annual silent auction this year (yes ... again, I also chaired the committee last year). The event is huge for the school and is the biggest fundraiser of the year bringing in roughly half of the annual budgeted amount. Two years ago the event brought in roughly $9,000. Last year we raised $18,000 net and this year we brought in around $22,000! Preparing for the event kept me very busy ... lots of time away from the family. :(
  4. We are closing our office doors and moving home. Times are tight, the economy is rough and we've tried to make the best of things but you can't create projects out of thin air. So we are closing our office down. We are still hoping to make a go of things, but it will have to be from home, where the overhead is more manageable.
  5. We're trying to buy a house. We've had enough of our current living situation and are tired of paying a ton of our hard earned cash to live in someone else's house. So we will no longer be renters this May. We've been pre-approved for a mortgage and have been searching for our dream home. I'll keep ya'll posted on this.
So there ya have it. Yes, I have been away, but for good reason. I'm back now and will try to post with some regularity .... starting now ...

"Looking at each face I saw humanity."

I was watching 20/20 tonight and saw this story about this amazing guy named Kevin Connolly. Kevin is a 22 year old who was born without legs. He has traveled the world taking photos (from his perspective) of the stares he receives from people on the streets. Check out his gallery over at The Rolling Exhibition.

What an amazing person. Kevin is a film student at Montana State University and in addition to his photo exhibition he is an avid and successful skier, winning a silver in the 2007 X Games.

P.S. No creative editing going on there, by the way

...Halle Berry is a bloody idiot.

Halle: I had no understanding of what diabetes was. I instantly thought I was going to die, because I heard, "disease" and "okay, after disease there must be death." And I got a very quick education about what diabetes was, and I realize that I probably had it for most of my childhood, but when you're diabetic, nothing hurts.
James Lipton: Is this Type 1?
Halle: It is really Type 1, but classified now as Type 2 because I'm no longer insulin dependent. I was for awhile, and I've managed to wean myself off of insulin, so now I like to put myself in the Type 2 category.
James Lipton: You control it with diet and with exercise?
Halle: Yes.

I know this is no news flash to all of you lovely diabetes bloggers. But for all of you folks who know me outside of the world of diabetes, I would like to inform you all that Halle Berry may have a "great set" but her brain needs some serious work.

For the record, you can't just up and switch from being type 1 to type 2. With type1, you can never ever wean yourself off of insulin. You would die. Plain and simple. That would be like saying that you could wean yourself off of food. So while she may be gorgeous and make pregnancy look appealing to even those of us who know better, the lady is either off her rocker or a complete dolt.

P.S. If you click on the picture it will take you to lilituc's flickr photoset with the rest of Halle's Inside the Actor's Studio screen caps.
